Making masks required for traditional mask dancing is a specialized art form carried out by members of traditional dancing families and specialized schools. Even though the mask production is guided or based on verses called embum kavi and the study of master masks (guru mubuna) preserved with dancing families, each one is different depending on the skills of the craftsmen, their theoretical knowledge and the tools they use. Due to these reasons masks made in different areas exhibit variations.
The purpose of this book is to access the creative techniques and methods adopted in making masks. It gives an account on the method of wearing and the art of performance practiced in the tradition. This is written by an artist who has experience in mask danc- ing. It also gives an account on the present culture of mask making.
The origin of the low country dance is from the western and the southern provinces of Sri Lanka. This book is based on the special types of masks made and used in performing Kolam Nataka and Yak Tovil which are still practiced and famous in the low country. This book is a guide providingĀ knowledge to those who areĀ interested in traditional crafts andĀ mask dancing in Sri lanka.

Shipping in Sri Lanka:
- We provide delivery Islandwide on prepaid orders. Standard delivery charges, which will be made known to you when accepting your order,Ā will apply on all cash/credit delivery orders.Ā
- Colombo City Limits: Upto1st Kilogram Rs:450/- each additional Kilogram or part thereof will be an additional Rs:150/-Ā
- Outside of Colombo: Delivery fee will be calculated based on weight of the order.Ā
- We are ready to dispatch most orders the very next day or within 2-3 working days. Any custom orders may take longer, a delivery date for the same will be provided via email. Delivery to areas with remote connectivity may also take a longer period.
- All orders will be delivered to the address mentioned at the time of placing the order. To ensure timely delivery and avoid misplacement, we request you to provide your complete address and check thoroughly before submitting.
- In case the delivery is not accepted in the first attempt, the cost of re-shipping the products will have to be borne by the customer.
