Our vegetable dyeing process produces beautifully unpredictable colour. This is not seen as a flaw but as an intrinsic part of our fabric. Sustainable, nontoxic and biodegradable, our dyes are made from plant roots, flowers, leaves, fruit and discarded sawdust from sawmills. An organic binding agent fixes the dyes into the cotton yarn from which our handwoven fabrics are created.
Every piece at Barefoot is unique and individually handmade. Barefoot has an identity that doesn’t change with what is currently popular. We try not to make conscious decisions to redefine ourselves based on fashion trends, only on what is good for people and the earth.
Any change in the way we work comes about naturally, and within Barbara Sansoni’s design ethos. From our naturally dyed yarn we make shawls and sarongs, straight off the loom. From the finished woven fabric, we design and hand-stitch clothing made for island living.
